A basic assumption of our faith is that each life, each person has value. Earlier this summer, Pastor Gary Erdos, Pastor Kathleen Haller and City Ministry Director, Janet Altmeyer, began an effort to let people know we think everyone's story is important. On Thursdays at lunchtime, they've taken turns setting up an empty lawn chair in Freiman Square, and offered to listen, to anyone, about anything. It took awhile for people to understand what was happening: they really just wanted to offer a human connection, a listening ear. Each week, more and more people have sat in the chair and shared what was on their minds or weighing on their hearts. And we've listened. And we'll keep listening. That's one of the basic, reliable truths we can offer. If you want to talk, we'll listen. Because everyone's story is important. So, look for us---you never know where our lawn chairs and our sign will show up.
