About the event
Join WELCA on Tuesday, February 20 from 6-8 PM for dinner and a book discussion, featuring Sandra Baker Baron, author of Bridging the Mississippi: A Memoir of Racial Injustice and Missing Beads. Sandi and husband Denny were the only White teachers in an all-Black school in New Orleans in the 1960s. When Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is killed by a White man, Sandi assigns her students to write about their feelings. Forty-five years later, the retired teacher reconnects with her former students and returns to those essays written the day after Dr. King’s assassination.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase ($15) between services on Sunday, January 28 and Sunday, February 4. To sign up for the potluck dinner, check out sign up genius or call the church (426-3424) and Laura will help you sign up.
