Interested in a simple, relaxing way to clear your mind, lift up a prayer, and prepare for your evening rest? Both the season of Lent and this time of Covid-19 seem like a perfect opportunity to introduce Compline (Prayer at the Close of the Day.) Based on the model of daily prayer services used in the early church, it is a very brief service that focuses on prayer, quiet meditation, brief scripture and sung responses.
Trinity’s version of Compline was recorded in the semi-darkened Krauss Chapel with the illumination of 116 candles spaced around the room. The music is based on simple, unaccompanied chant, gently sung by a cantor and a small men’s chorus. A PDF of the service is available to enable you to participate.
You are invited to share in this prayer service one time, occasionally, or every evening prior to bed. Those who have experienced it find that the repetition enables them to internalize the scripture and prayers, bringing them a deeper sense of God’s solace and peace.
