Dec. 11 - Laura Hoffman (Isaiah 40:1-11)

December 11

I had to read this Bible passage multiple times to start to fully understand what the Word of God was saying to me. What I believe it is telling us is to share the good news of God and to comfort the people around us.  In verse 6 it asks, “What shall I cry out”?  I hear, “How do I tell other’s about God’s Word?”  In all honesty sometimes it’s hard for me to know how to share God with others.  Sometimes it might feel uncomfortable or even scary.  It can be hard to know how to approach someone that we know or maybe someone we don’t know about it.  Sometimes, I wonder, what if I don’t know all the right words to say?  Isaiah encourages us to speak up and share the Good news about God’s unfailing love.  God loves each and every single person in this world!  Our sins have been paid for and God’s love is forever!

Even though I have my moments when I may feel a little nervous to share God’s love with others, I am reminded how important it is to share this.

As you may all know I am the Front Desk Receptionist at Trinity English.  I am the first person you see when you come into the church during the week.  Since I am the first point of contact, I see a lot of people in our downtown community.  I see a lot of people struggling.

Part of my job at Trinity English is to help give out community resource information.  Whether that be food, clothing, or housing resources (there are many more).  I help get them connected with the right people.  Sometimes people in our community will ask me to pray for them.  Some people ask me for nothing more than just for help with a resource because that is all they can think of to get by at that moment.  The number one thing I always try to remind people is this: “We care about you; we want to help you”.  After I say this, I immediately see a change in the person I am talking to.   I see a sad face turn into a smile.  A low voice turns into an excited voice!  They feel loved!  I think this is one example of how we can “cry out God’s Word”.  By being kind and compassionate to people and letting them know they are cared for and that God loves them.  That is what the book of Isaiah helps remind us.

It is that simple.

I have met so many amazing people from our downtown community!  I feel so blessed to be able to share one of my experiences with all of you.  We can all share the love of Jesus.  There is no wrong way.  You won’t mess it up.  Don’t miss out on your moment of opportunity.

 God’s blessings,

Laura Hoffman
Receptionist
